Charles I was the second son of James I and was born on 19th November 1600. He was crowned in Westminster Abbey in February 1626.

The Cloisters
The Cloisters date mainly from the 13th to the 15th centuries and were where the Abbey’s monks spent much of their time.

Free entry to the Abbey for NHS staff as summer visiting hours are announced
Friday, 25th June 2021
NHS staff will be able to visit Westminster Abbey for free from July onwards. The gesture to NHS staff is an acknowledgment of all their hard work during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
